I had the absolute joy of meeting with Sonia & her soul-dog Milo in early May, 2021 when Summer thunderstorms were still rolling through daily and the last of the Spring flowers were still in bloom.
Somehow fate knew that Sonia and Milo were meant to be together long before either of them did. Not quite ready to adopt a dog, Sonia Googled dog names on a wild hair. And really like the name Milo.
Meanwhile, Milo found himself wandering the Texas desert with just a doggy friend and no person to keep him safe. Getting picked up by animal control seemed like a saving grace, until this sweet boy spent months in the shelter waiting for his forever home. His age overriding his adorableness for many would-be adopters.
While Sonia still wasn't really looking to adopt, luckily she had one of those oh so helpful friends with every intention of helping her find a little pupper to keep her company. When this amazing friend forwarded Milo's adoption listing it was practically love at first sight. While he wasn't originally called Milo, the name fit his loving demeaner perfectly.
Milo settled into his new cozy bed quickly. This sweet gentlemen of a dog askes for attention by gently tapping a paw on your shin, and occasionally begs for goodies by sitting quietly and looking longingly at your food. Only once, in the very beginning did he get a little mischievous and swipe a slice of cheesecake off the table.
If Milo were to tell you his story it would go something like "When my person found me, I had been in a shelter in El Paso, Texas for three and a half months, where I was locked in a cage from 4 pm to 10 am, and this was after they found me wandering around the desert with another dog! But my human saw me at the shelter and decided to take me to her house. I immediately settled into the new dog bed she bought me, but it took a while to really get comfortable because I was afraid of the dark and of being in cars. Once I got used to being with my new human, we've embarked on very long walks, lots of tum tum rubs, and lots of naps on the couch. I also love waking my human up by jumping on her bed at 5 am and stepping on her before curling up right next to her to wait for breakfast. "
Sonia shared "I'm so lucky I found Milo, and will always be grateful to my friend who sent me his adoption post, because I didn't think the time was exactly right for me to adopt a dog when I adopted him. There were so many things in both our lives that had to go the way they did for us to find each other, and I'm just so grateful things worked out the way they did. Milo was around 6 years old when I adopted him, and I hope more folks will consider adopting middle aged to senior dogs. Every dog has medical issues, but Milo's are very manageable, and he came to me really well trained and he just needed a home. "
