When I came to Coeur d'Alene for the very first time I was absolutely blown away. The crystal clear water, the rolling green mountains that go forever! Having grown exhausted by the Denver rat race, my family & I were on the hunt for someplace quieter & less crowded, but still as beautiful and dog-centric as the Colorado Front Range we'd called home for the last decade. And the areas surrounding Lake Coeur d'Alene just checked every. single. box! Until...
As a devout dog-mom, I was a bit heartbroken by the "no dogs in parks" signs I saw everywhere. In our search for a quieter, more nature filled lifestyle, I thought we'd stumbled upon Eden. But, no dogs in parks? Then where are you supposed to take them? How would I explain to Freki he couldn't roll in the grass?
Being in a dog-centric industry, not to mention the kind of person who relishes sharing adventures with my pups, the dog friendliness of a place weighed heavily on whether we could live there. So I balked, and then I researched. And I found out that while the CDA parks may be off limits, there are still LOTS of fun things to do with your dog, if you know where to look!
I've got it on good authority these events are dog friendly, but I haven't attended most of them myself, yet. So it's always a good idea to confirm any details with event coordinators, I'll link each event flyer to their website or Facebook page. If you've been to any of these events, please share your experience as far as dog-friendliness (please be kind & respectful) And if you know of some dog friendly events I haven't found yet, please share 'em in the comments!
And these are just the "events" I've found. Turns out there are a whole lot of dog-friendly businesses around town too! More on that later...
Events are listed as a courtesy and information is pulled from event hosts website, be sure to check there for any details before attending.
***Ongoing events are listed at the bottom***
Many events are on-going during the Summer so be sure to check your dates, and also the event website for any restrictions or updates.
Do your best to be a good dog steward:
