Spring is the perfect time to celebrate fresh starts—and few stories are as heartwarming as Juju’s. I met her last June during my annual Colorado Pet Pantry Fundraiser, where her quiet charm and heartfelt story touched everyone who crossed her path. Juju raised over $1,000 for pets in need, but her impact went far beyond donations.
Here’s a glimpse into her journey and the unforgettable photo session we shared.
Juju’s story starts in Georgia, where she was born in 2016. At just six months old, she found herself surrendered to a shelter. But her luck changed when Southern Mutts Rescue brought her to Colorado. It was at a BBQ that fate stepped in—her future mom spotted her and instantly fell in love. And really, who could resist those ears?
These days, Juju lives her best life. Her days are filled with snuggles, walks, and visits to her favorite local spots—her mom’s hair salon, the chiropractor, and of course, Starbucks. She’s not just a companion; she’s a star wherever she goes. Her sweet spirit and loyalty shine, and it’s easy to see how she earned the nickname “amazing vocalist”—especially when she belts out the high notes with her mom!
When Juju showed up to her session last June, she was a little shy at first. But with a few treats and a lot of gentle encouragement, she warmed up quickly. The day was warm, so we found cozy shaded spots that helped bring out her calm, observant nature—perfect for a pup who takes her neighborhood watch duties seriously!
Juju’s photo session wasn’t just about beautiful portraits—it was about purpose. Thanks to her participation in the fundraiser, she helped raise over $1,000 for Colorado Pet Pantry. That’s a lot of meals for pets in need. Her story is proof that every pet has the power to make a difference—and every photo can tell a powerful story.
Every rescue pet has a tale worth telling. Juju reminded me why I host this fundraiser every year—these animals have so much heart, and capturing that in a photo is an honor. There’s something incredibly moving about photographing pets who’ve overcome rough beginnings and now live joyful, love-filled lives.
You can donate directly through their website or sign up to volunteer.
What’s the best way to prepare my rescue dog for a photo session?
Start with treats and patience. Let them warm up naturally. A familiar toy or blanket can also help make them feel safe.
Absolutely! Our next contest is starting in just a few weeks.
