Yoga Dog Project Book Launch!!!

by Kris Phillips

Have you ever tried to practice yoga while your dog was around? I’ll bet you didn’t even make it through your first Sun Salutation before your mat was taken over by a big furry love-ball!

There’s something about yoga and dogs that just go together. Perhaps it’s just that we’re not often sitting and laying on the floor with them. Perhaps it’s the vibration we find during our practice that draws them in. Probably it’s a little bit of both.

Whatever the reason, the energetic link between dogs and yoga is undeniable. And through the Yoga Dog Project I want to emphasize and illuminate that link.

This has been an AM-MA-ZING journey! When I first launched the model call back on January 11th I had absolutely no idea what the next seven months would bring.

I met a whole tribe of awesome dog-loving yogis and oh so many adorable doggos!

As a pet photographer I love the insight I get into people journeys. The stories that brought them their furry friends. Always different and yet at the heart is always a story of love and compassion for another being.

With the Yoga Dog Project I had the unique opportunity to learn even more  about the people on the other side of my lens. Many shared what brought them to their mats. For some it was about recovery- mental, physical, and emotional recovery from the toll life can take on a person. For others yoga is about finding the calm in the storm, time to just breathe. I’m honored by each and every person who let me into their sacred space to be a part of this project. And I’m so elated to pour all their hard work into these pages.

The Yoga Dog Project Book officially launches today on Kickstarter. Go get your copy

***The Kickstarter only runs for 30 days!***

Why Kickstarter? I felt like the most efficient way to launch the book was self-publishing. But  self-publishing means investing a substantial sum into the first round of printing with no real idea how well it’ll sell. Print too many any you’re stuck with boxes and boxes of books no one wants, print too few and you’ll end up back-stocked with frustrated buyers waiting way too long for delivery.  Kickstarter allows me to offer pre-sales in a way that provides you, the buyer, with the security of knowing that if the project falls through, you’re guaranteed to get your money back.

What’s Kickstarter? Kickstarter is a crowd-funding platform that helps artists, musicians, writers, and other creatives find the funding to bring their ideas to life.

How’s it work? An artist, like myself, puts together a project with a funding goal. In my case, the minimum amount required to print the first round of Yoga Dog Project books. And then awesome people become backers for the project in exchange for rewards, like a signed 1st edition copy of the book!

What if the goal isn’t met? Then all the backers get their money back and the book never makes it to the printer :(

Want to help?

  • Go get your copy, and a copy for your studio, and maybe one for your best dog-loving yogi friends too!
  • Spread the word- tell everyone and their dog! Share social media posts. Tag your yoga studio & friends.

Remember the Kickstarter only runs until September 29th, 2019.

After that the large format 10 x 10 in Coffee Table book will no longer be available. If the project goes to a commercial printer it will be much smaller to qualify for mass release.
